Yoko Mizuki
Yoko Mizuki
Singer
Born in Oita Prefecture, Yoko Mizuki faced the challenge of conductive hearing loss in her right ear. Inspired by her grandmother, who sang traditional Japanese folk songs, she began playing the piano at five, discovering the joy of singing music early in life.
At 14, she passed an audition for singing and acting, joining a talent agency. However, after the passing of her beloved father, she gave up on her dream and decided to pursue a career in teaching English. She attended a language school at the University of Hawaii and earned her master’s degree from the University of Kansas.
Her journey back to music began when a fellow teacher invited her to join a band as a vocalist. Torn between her passion for music and her dedication to teaching, she struggled to make a clear choice. After returning to Japan, she resumed her teaching career but could not abandon her dream of music. She reignited her passion by performing in Tokyo and Yokohama and joined the Kanagawa Jubilee Chorale to study choir singing. She later attended a jazz music academy and expanded her repertoire through band performances, duets, choral work, solo performances, and songwriting.
Her grandmother’s volunteer work, singing for residents in senior homes, deeply influenced her during her teenage years. Following in her footsteps, Yoko performed at preschools and kindergartens in Zushi and Hayama and in churches, experiences that deepened her appreciation for human connections and the intangible values of life.
Currently residing in Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture, she works as an elementary school English teacher while continuing her solo music career. Her daily interactions with 200 students, filled with joy and English songs, provide a sense of fulfillment. At the same time, music remains an essential tool for her to explore profound questions about life’s meaning and the nature of love.
Since 2023, Yoko has focused on music and video production, appearing on radio programs such as Shibuya Cross FM and Komae FM. She hopes her music can bring small joys and moments of inspiration to others, serving as a source of connection and comfort.
With the motto “Words that touch the heart, Tones that touch the heart, are Healing.” Yoko Mizuki is dedicated to continuing her journey as a singer, spreading love, compassion, and inspiration through her music.
